Rex Robards is the owner of

For Handheld Computers

IttyBittyComputer.com was initially a synonym for http://www.rexrobards.com/palm, but is now a separately hosted domain. Itty Bitty Computer distributes free ebooks and a simple five-function calculator for Palm-powered PDAs and smartphones. IBC also sells more advanced calculators that are based upon that free, simple, five-function calculator. The advanced calculators incorporate special functions for business, finance, and simple statistics.

The same site also distributes more than 200 different, free eBooks for the eReader, which was formerly known as the PalmReader. All of these ebooks are compatible with all current versions of both the eReader and the PalmReader.

For Musicians

Valvette.us and BuildYourOwnAmp.com were synonyms for http://www.rexrobards.com/ampco, a site dedicated to design and construction of vacuum tube audio equipment (especially electric guitar amplifiers). Valvette.us is now separately hosted as a mirror of http://www.rexrobards.com/ampco. Valvette.us was moved to a separate server principally to serve as a host for the tube amp builder's forum.

I also operate a banner exchange for music web sites, which is called Fair Exchange. This service began life at RexRobards.com/fair, but has since assumed an independent existence at FairExchange.US. The banner exchange is a service that offers free advertising to any web site that is of interest to musicians or music fans. Members of the banner exchange earn credits each time that any Fair Exchange banner ad is displayed on the member's web site and when visitors click on a Fair Exchange ad. Additionally, every new member receives 250 free credits just for signing up, and 100 more credits at the beginning of every month of continued participation in the exchange. Members get their own ad displayed on another member site for every two credits earned. The exchange is easy to join and provides real-time reports of current-month banner performance.

Rique Riquardo's Guitar Museum is located at http://www.valvette.us/rique. It is a site devoted to the hobby of musical instrument collecting and restoration. The content of the site includes a lot of information about the history and construction of the instruments featured on the site. The types of instruments covered include guitars (acoustic and electric), mandolins, bass guitars, and guitar amplifiers.

For Investors

Statistical Investor is a web site that was founded in May of 2006 to expand on some ideas about the use of statistical analysis of stock prices. Some of those ideas were first introduced here, and grew out of courses in finance, statistics and forecasting that were part of my MBA curriculum.

The Summary

In 2004, these sites served a total of 205,860 pages which was an increase of 18.4% over the 173,846 pages that were served in 2003.

And The Details

Technology

All static pages on these sites are handwritten HTML, created with the "vi" text editor that was created by Bill Joy and is familiar to UNIX programmers dating back to the 1970s. To edit text files that contain extraordinarily long lines, I sometimes use MicroSoft WordPad.

All CGI scripts are written in the Perl scripting language. Perl has also been used to write scripts that generate pages that are frequently updated and to format ebooks (for Itty Bitty Computer), as well as to serve banner advertising and generate member reports for the FairExchange banner service and to randomize advertising on all of my websites.

For image manipulation, I use ACDSee (image viewer/format converter), Adobe PhotoShop (2.0), MicroSoft Paint, and the Advanced GIF Animator (AdGIF) from CreaBit Development.
